‘Chak De India’: India Beat Malaysia 2-1 In The Asia Cup Hockey Final 2017

India defeated Malaysia 2-1 in the final of the Asia Cup hockey in Dhaka today.India win gold, Malaysia silver and Pakistan bronze. 

India beat first time finalists Malaysia 2-1 in a thrilling finale to win the 2017 Asia Cup Hockey tournament held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Sunday. This was India’s third continental title.

Ramandeep Singh scored the opening goal in the third minute while Lalit Upadhyay extended India’s lead in the 29th minute of the game.

This was Malaysia’s first final at the Asia Cup. Earlier in the Super 4 stage, India had produced a brilliant performance to beat Malaysia 6-2.

On Saturday, India continued their unbeaten run in the tournament as they registered a convincing 4-0 win over arch-rivals Pakistan in a Super 4 encounter to book their place in the final.

India scored in the second minute of the game and later in the 29th minute in the 2-1 win over Malaysia. The runners-up pulled one back in the 49th minute but could not find the equaliser till the end of the match.Lalit Upapdhyay won the goal of the match award while Akashdeep Singh was adjudged the Man of the match.

India last won the title in 2007 in Chennai. India are now tied with Pakistan as the second most successful team in the tournament, behind South Korea. The Koreans have won it four times.
